Possible flooding alters cycling race schedule

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships will now be a one-day competition due to Ohio River flood projections.

Race organizers on Friday compacted the two-day schedule into one, with all four now being held on Saturday The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has forecast low-level flooding at Beargrass Creek along the river by Sunday morning and the flooding is expected to continue for 48 hours..

USA Cycling spokesman Bill Kellick says the schedule included the option of adjusting events in was of bad weather, adding "NOAA knows what they're talking about, so we have to heed what they say.''

A temporary barrier will be constructed along the course to ensure the event is completed. Races begin with Men's Juniors, followed by Elite Women, Under-23 Men and ends with Elite Men.
