Prosecutor: Montana football program not on trial

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A prosecutor in a rape case against a former University of Montana quarterback says the school's football team is not on trial.

Attorney Adam Duerk (DIRK') said Monday the case is about a woman who was betrayed by someone she trusted.

The trial began with opening statements in the case that has drawn attention to the university's handling of sex assault cases.

Jordan Johnson is accused of assaulting the woman as they watched a movie together at her home last year.

Johnson says the sex was consensual.

Johnson attorney Kirsten Pabst says the former quarterback is the opposite of what has been referred to outside the courtroom as "football thugs.''
