AP Pro32 comments about Bears
NEW YORK (AP) - Comments on the Chicago Bears by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
CHICAGO BEARS (13)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 11) - Ten wins usually enough for postseason. Instead, their coach gets fired. Tough business.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 14) - Ten wins did not save their season, or Lovie Smith's job.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 14)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 13) - Fired Lovie Smith after another disappointing second half of the season and the fact they can't beat Green Bay.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 13) - Lovie Smith is still the Bears' coach if the Packers beat the Vikings. His run ends in Chicago after a 10-6 season. Now the heat's on GM Phil Emery.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 13) - The Bears were the only team to finish in double digits in victories this season (10-6) and fail to make the playoffs. It cost coach Lovie Smith his job.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 13) - There's a reason they no longer call this place Second City. That's what happens when Minnesota beats you to the playoffs.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 13) - The Bears wasted a lot of good defense, so Lovie Smith paid the ultimate NFL price.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 13) - The Bears missed the playoffs with an ailing defense and an offense that is too much pitch and catch between Cutler and Marshall.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 13) - The Bears did their part in Week 17, but their longtime nemesis, the Green Bay Packers defeated them yet again when they couldn't beat the Vikings. Lovie Smith did some great things leading the Bears and someone would be fortunate to hire him elsewhere.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 13) - With the Bears missing the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons, not even a 10-6 record was enough to save head coach Lovie Smith's job.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 13) - Ten wins got four other teams in the playoffs, and usually gets any team in, but the Bears lost the wrong games and missed the cut.
