AP Pro32 comments about Steelers
NEW YORK (AP) - Comments on the Pittsburgh Steelers by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
PITTSBURGH STEELERS (16)
Chris Berman (ESPN, 15) - Odd not seeing them in postseason.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 18) - Need to get younger, and offensive line needs to get better.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 16)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 16) - Unusual late season collapse won't be tolerated by Tomlin.
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 18) - Stillers avoid first losing season in a decade, but that's small consolation for missing out on the playoffs. Time to re-tool the offensive line and get younger on defense.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 16) - The Steelers finished first in the NFL in defense, first in pass defense and second in run defense but still missed the playoffs. So much for the adage, "Defense wins championships."
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 16) - This is how bad the second-half of the season was: The Steelers' best performance was turned in by Charlie Batch.
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 17) - The NFL's No. 1 defense is home for the holidays, thanks to 30 giveaways.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 18) - 17 players over 30 years of age including all three quarterbacks. An offense that isn't consistent especially when it comes to running the ball. They have work to do in the off season.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 16) - They will be back. They didn't seem right all year and are aging on the defensive side of the ball. They will figure it out under the leadership of Mike Tomlin, the Steelers always do and Big Ben is not going anywhere.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 16) - A season-ending win over Cleveland did nothing to quell the disappointment that came with missing the playoffs for only the second time since 2007.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 15) - This is what you have to love about the Steelers-they underachieved and missed the playoffs but are apparently not making major changes. Only in Pittsburgh.
