CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Running back Kenjon Barner, a sixth-round draft pick from Oregon, was among the players singled out by coach Ron Rivera during the first day of a rookie minicamp for the Carolina Panthers on Friday.

Barner, who rushed for 1,767 yards and scored 23 touchdowns (21 on the ground) as a senior, was one of 59 rookies participating in the camp. That included the Panthers' other four draft picks, as well as 18 undrafted free agents and 36 tryout players.

Rivera says of Barner: "If he continues to grow and improve and flash like he's been doing, he's got a real good chance to help us.''

Barner worked not only out of the backfield Friday, but also as a kick returner.
