ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Fed Biz led all the way to win the $150,000 San Fernando Stakes by a head at Santa Anita on Saturday.

Ridden by Mike Smith, Fed Biz ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.34 and paid $11.20, $6.20 and $4.40. It was Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert's record fifth win in the race.

Fed Biz was considered to be one of Baffert's top 3-year-olds a year ago, but was never a factor on the Triple Crown trail.

"I expect so much from this horse, when he loses, it's very disappointing,'' Baffert said. "He's a very talented horse and he was good today going to the gate and he ran well.''

Tritap returned $9.80 and $6.40, while Guilt Trip was another 2 3/4 lengths back in third and paid $5.60 to show. Guilt Trip was one of Baffert's three entries in the nine-horse field. His other one, 4-1 favorite Mile High Magic, was eased under Martin Garcia after breaking slowly.

The victory, worth $90,000, increased Fed Biz's career earnings to $274,456, with four wins in eight starts.

Baffert said it's likely Fed Biz would start next in the Santa Anita Handicap on March 2.
