Schiaparelli wins Santa Anita feature |

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Schiaparelli won the $60,000 San Mateo Purse by 3 1/2 lengths at Santa Anita on Thursday, wearing blinkers and earmuffs to calm her down.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, Schiaparelli ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:11.70 and paid $10.60, $4.40 and $3.
"She was a lot more relaxed,'' Talamo said. "She's got a great turn of foot and she ran huge.''
Best Present Ever returned $4 and $2.60, while Ireland-bred filly Esentepe was another half-length back in third in her U.S. debut and paid $2.80 to show.
The victory, worth $36,000, increased Schiaparelli's career earnings to $120,864, with three wins in six starts.
