Percussion wins Belmont's Albert The Great Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) - Percussion held off Fast Falcon by a nose on Sunday in the $88,200 Albert The Great Stakes at Belmont Park.

Percussion, the 3-5 favorite trained by Todd Pletcher, rebounded from a fourth-place finish in the Charles Town Classic with his third win in the last four starts. The 5-year-old gelding set the pace under John Velazquez, and was all out in the deep stretch to secure his fifth win in 23 career races. The time was 1:49.45 for the 1 1-8 miles over the drying-out track rated "good''.

Percussion paid $3.50, $2.40 and $2.10. Fast Falcon, the 5-2 second choice, returned $2.80 and $2.50 while Birdrun paid $2.90 to show.
