SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The 14-year-old victim of a crash over the weekend at a California racing track is being remembered as a passionate basketball player and racing fan.

The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa (http://bit.ly/Z9gRw7) reports that about 200 people gathered in the courtyard of Marcus Johnson's Santa Rosa middle school on Sunday to share memories of the 8th grader.

Marcus was on the school's basketball team and a memorial set up to him included a basketball.

Johnson and 68-year-old race car owner Dale Wondergem died when a sprint car driven by Johnson's 17-year-old cousin, Chase, crashed into pit row on Saturday at the Marysville Raceway Park.

The cause of the crash, as well as why Marcus was in the pit area, are under investigation.

Marcus's parents and younger brother also attended the vigil.
