Decision nearing on road race at Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - IndyCar officials could decide as soon as next week whether to add a road race in Indianapolis to the 2014 schedule.
Series officials hope to release the full schedule before the Oct. 19 season finale at Fontana, Calif., but adding a second May race in Indy still needs to be approved by the Hulman & Co. board of directors.
Company CEO Mark Miles said Monday he expects a decision before the end of September.
Miles also said a commission has been appointed to evaluate possible track upgrades at the historic 2.5-mile Brickyard. In about a month, Miles said, the commission will be asked to consider two or three proposals. Miles would not provide specifics about the proposals, though the addition of lights has been widely discussed.
