Caribbean official drops FIFA appeal at CAS

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) -Disgraced official Patrick John has dropped his appeal against a two-year FIFA ban in the Caribbean bribery case involving Mohamed bin Hammam.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport says it cancelled a hearing scheduled next Monday after John, the former prime minister of Dominica, withdrew his appeal.

FIFA's ethics committee banned John and fined him 3,000 Swiss francs (then $3,300) in November 2011, in a final round of sanctions for Caribbean officials caught in the conspiracy.

FIFA never specified what John is accused of doing.

Bin Hammm allegedly offered $40,000 cash payments to voters during a campaign visit to Trinidad in May 2011 during his challenge against FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

The Qatari official's life ban was lifted by CAS, then imposed again by FIFA last month after he resigned from all football positions.
