Congo govt, federation deny Le Roy resignation
JOHANNESBURG (AP) -Congo's sports minister has denied reports that Claude Le Roy has resigned as coach of the national football team, saying the Frenchman is "on the training ground'' with his players.
Baudouin Banza Mukalayi says reports that Le Roy handed over his resignation days before the start of the African Cup of Nations in South Africa over disagreements with the national federation were "rumors.''
Mukalayi says the Congolese football federation president, who is in South Africa, "never received a resignation letter from Claude. Right now he (Le Roy) is on the training ground.''
Congolese club TP Mazembe reported on its website that the experienced coach had quit because of the federation's failure to deal with logistical problems and tournament bonuses for players.
The federation also denied that Le Roy had resigned.
