MADRID (AP) -Real Madrid says goalkeeper Iker Casillas has broken a bone in his left hand.

The Spain international hurt his hand in a Copa del Rey quarterfinal at Valencia on Wednesday, when teammate Alvaro Arbeloa kicked him while clearing a loose ball in the area. Casillas immediately called for the team doctors before leaving the pitch in obvious pain.

The Spanish club says Casillas will be evaluated by a specialist later Thursday to "decide what treatment to seek.''

Madrid gave no indication how long Casillas will be sidelined.

Adan Garrido, who has shared starts with Casillas recently, will likely take his place.
