Le Roy says celebration may have distracted Congo
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa (AP) -Congo coach Claude Le Roy says his decision to allow his players to stay up late to celebrate striker Dieumerci Mbokani may have been behind their subdued performance in a 0-0 draw with Niger at the African Cup of Nations.
Le Roy says the players went to bed late after watching Anderlecht forward Mbokani presented with Belgium's best player award via a live TV linkup at the team hotel in South Africa.
Le Roy said after Thursday's goalless draw with Niger in Group B, "maybe we missed some concentration with this party ... it's not the best way to prepare a game.''
Congo missed the chance to put pressure on Ghana and Mali at the top of the group and must now beat Mali to qualify.
