Brazil's Bastos joins Schalke on loan from Lyon

GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) -Schalke has signed Brazilian midfielder Michel Bastos on loan from Lyon until the end of next season, with an option to make it a permanent move from the French club.

Schalke announced the deal for the 29-year-old Bastos on Tuesday, a day after its Germany midfielder Lewis Holtby moved to Tottenham.

Bastos has played in the Champions League for Lyon and his previous club, Lille, and has made 10 appearances for Brazil.

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt says Bastos "is an internationally experienced player with special qualities who can help us straight away. He's also available for the Champions League.''
