Pacos Ferreira beats Sporting 1-0 to cement 3rd

LISBON, Portugal (AP) -Pacos Ferreira beat visiting Sporting Lisbon 1-0 Sunday to strengthen its hold on third place in the Portuguese league.

Defender Anthony Silva scored the winner for Pacos Ferreira with a header 15 minutes from time.

Pacos Ferreira has a four-point lead over fourth-place Braga. First-place Benfica can extend its one-point lead over FC Porto against Estoril on Monday.

Also on Sunday, Beira-Mar beat Maritimo 4-2 to escape last place, while Olhanense edged past Rio Ave 1-0 to move out of the relegation zone.

Guimaraes downed Gil Vicente 3-1, and Academica won 1-0 at Setubal.
