GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) - Charlie Mulgrew ensured Celtic quickly recovered from its Champions League loss at AC Milan, by clinching a 2-1 victory over St. Johnstone on Saturday.

Mulgrew blasted the ball into the net from 25 yards (meters) in the 26th minute.

The Scottish champions had taken just 11 minutes to grab the lead when Teemu Pukki slotted home after fine work from Anthony Stokes.

The hosts looked set to go on to claim a lopsided win but St. Johnstone showed resolve and dug in, with Liam Caddis making for some anxious final moments after reducing the deficit in the 81st.

Celtic is only behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle on goal difference with a game in hand. The leaders went down 1-0 at Aberdeen in their first loss of the season.
