MIAMI (AP) - Running in his first marathon, Luis Rivero Gonzalez of Guatemala won the Miami Marathon on Sunday.

Rivero, a professional runner for more than two years, had a time of 2 hours, 26 minutes, 14 seconds in the event that drew 25,000 runners.

"Since it was my first marathon, I went all-out from the very start,'' said Rivero Gonzalez, who earned his law degree from Universidad de San Carlos in Guatemala in November. "As the race went on, I continued to feel strong.''

David Tuwei of Kenya finished second at 2:28:15. He and Ethiopia's Tesfaye Bekele (2:28:22) were in a group of five runners who ran together for the final 25 miles.

"No one saw the leader,'' Bekele said. "But for 25 miles there were five of us fighting each other. We were battling the last mile.''

Mariska Kramer of the Netherlands won the women's title in 2:46:07. Tezata Dengersa of Ethiopia was second in 2:48:43.
