GOTEBORG, Sweden (AP) - France's Antoinette Nana Djimou Ida has retained her European indoor pentathlon title, edging out Yana Maksimava of Belarus by eight points.

Nana Djimou took the lead Friday after the opening 60-meter hurdles, but Maksimava gained ground in the high jump, long jump and shot put.

In the final 800-meter race, Maksimava finished more than 2 seconds in front of second-place Hanna Melnychenko of Ukraine, with Nan Djimou nearly 6 seconds behind.

But the final tally gave Nana Djimou 4,666 points and Maksimava 4,658. Melnychenko took bronze.
