Volosozhar and Trankov top short program

DETROIT (AP) - Reigning world champions Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov of Russia won the Skate America pairs short program Saturday afternoon at Joe Louis Arena.

Volosozhar and Trankov scored 83.05, a world record for a pairs short program. They displayed superior speed, huge height on their throws, precise landings, and overall technical superiority.

Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch of Canada scored 71.51, and sit in second. Russian pair Ksneia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov (64.80) finished third.
