HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Southern Mississippi and men's basketball coach Donnie Tyndall have agreed on a new four-year contract that extends through the 2018 season.

The school says Tyndall will be paid a base salary of $500,000 annually under the new contract with possible incentives for accomplishments like conference championships, NCAA tournament appearances and season ticket sales.

If Tyndall leaves for another job, he owes the school 35 percent of his remaining contract. Southern Miss would owe Tyndall 60 percent of his remaining contract if he is fired without cause.

Tyndall is 40-12 at Southern Miss over the past two seasons and led the Golden Eagles to the NIT quarterfinals last year.

Southern Miss athletic director Bill McGillis calls Tyndall ''one of the country's elite coaches'' and ''a perfect fit for our university.''
