The Season's Hottest Ticket: "SPORTS ILLUSTRATED's 20th Century Sports Awards" Go on Sale

Tickets to the Ultimate Event Commemorating the Most Memorable Sports Legends and Achievements of the 20th Century Officially Go On Sale Monday, September 13

New York, September 9, 1999 - Sports fans will have a chance to attend a once-in-a-lifetime event later this year as tickets to "SPORTS ILLUSTRATED's 20th Century Sports Awards" officially go on sale on Monday, September 13. The spectacular two-hour event will take place at New York's Madison Square Garden on Thursday, December 2, at 9:00 p.m. (EST) and will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network.

The evening will showcase the most impressive assembly of sports personalities ever, as well as classic sports clips documenting the century's most memorable sports moments and achievements, plus some surprises from the world of entertainment. The awards show will honor the greatest athletes of the past 100 years, as selected by SPORTS ILLUSTRATED editors. Among the sports legends attending are Muhammad Ali, Arnold Palmer, Magic Johnson, Billie Jean King, Wayne Gretzky, Dick Butkus, Peggy Fleming, Bill Russell, Richard Petty and many, many more. A complete list of honorees and presenters will be announced at a later date.

For fans wanting the ultimate experience of being next to the greats, a limited number of VIP tickets are available. In addition to getting the best seats in the house, VIP ticket holders will have an opportunity to rub elbows with sports legends at the PARTY OF THE CENTURY preceding the show at 6:00 p.m. The Rotunda at Madison Square Garden will be transformed by legendary event designer Barton G for the exclusive VIP cocktail reception. The pre-event VIP party budget is in excess of $750,000. This will be the PARTY OF THE CENTURY!

VIP ticketholders will also be invited to bid on rare sports memorabilia at an exclusive silent auction open only to guests at the PARTY OF THE CENTURY, with all proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of America. VIP tickets to the party and awards show are valued at $1,500 each and can be purchased by calling the special ticket request line at 1-877-833-3VIP.

Additional tickets to the awards show are priced at levels of $250, $150, $75 and $50. All tickets officially go on sale today through all TicketMaster locations or by calling TicketMaster directly at 212-307-7171. Madison Sqaure Garden will seat 13,000 for this event. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the Sports and Literacy Programs at Boys and Girls Clubs nationwide.
