Not just anyone goes out and shoots 64 at Augusta National Golf Club.
Tiger Woods has never gone that low. Jack Nicklaus did it only once.
Only 11 players have done it, including Gary Player, Hale Irwin, David Toms, Jay Haas, Miller Barber and Maurice Bembridge. Only two (Greg Norman and Nick Price) have gone one better and shot 63.
Shooting 64 on your first pass around Augusta National as a Masters Tournament rookie is even more elite.
Journeyman pro Mike Donald, a 34-year-old Masters rookie in 1990, fired eight birdies and no bogeys for an introductory 64 and a two-shot lead over fellow first-timer John Huston. On a windy day when only 19 of 85 players broke par, Donald tied the record for the lowest Masters debut set 50 years earlier by Lloyd Mangrum.
