The real news heading into
the '75 Masters was the expected arrival of one Lee Elder,
an otherwise unremarkable 39-year-old who had
won the otherwise unremarkable Monsanto Open.
Elder would become the first African-American to play in The Masters.
After he broke the color line, he missed the cut.
