Changing the game
Know this about Tiger Woods' drive to become the game's greatest golfer: The swing he used to win the Masters by a record 12 strokes in 1997 has been discarded like an old pair of shoes. In its place is a more compact, tighter swing that focuses on control rather than raw power.

Tiger's Roots
Posted 03/31/98 at 19:42:10 EST
Heartwell Golf Course, tucked in a sleepy residential neighborhood in Long Beach, Calif., does not have the air of the historic. It lacks the grandeur of, say, the Colosseum or the Pyramids, and it offers no windows into the soul, as do Graceland or Monticello. Still, strolling around Heartwell is a journey back in time because this will forever be remembered as one of the places where Tiger Woods blossomed as a golfer.
