Changing course
by David Westin
Practically every year at the Masters Tournament, alterations are made to the Augusta National Golf Club. Some obvious changes are announced by the club. Others are subtle and discovered only by the Masters veteran.
For this year's event, there are no subtle changes to the course - only dramatic ones, and not just on a hole or two.
The intent is to reward the golfer who plays an exact, precise game and make the long hitter who tries to overpower the course pay.
"While changes made to the golf course this year included distance, the principal objective was to place greater emphasis on accuracy off the tee," said first-year Augusta National Chairman Hootie Johnson.
