Hole 11
Par 4, 455 Yards
The first of the water holes. Most golfers play their second shot to the right for the edge of the green or beyond trusting to a long putt or a chip shot to get close enough for par. In 1999, the green had been raised approximately 2 feet and the pond a foot. The two bunkers on the right side of the green were replaced by a new bunker just right of the green center. Also, Rae's Creek, which fronts the 12th green, was widened by one-half to accommodate flood control and the front left of the green was expanded slightly.

How Larry Mize plays this hole
1. I want to hit a really good drive. It's a big fairway, so I'm very aggressive off the tee. I want to hit the longest drive I can to get the shortest club into that green that I can.
2. I play a very smart, careful shot to the right of the pin on my second shot. Very few times will I shoot at the pin on that hole. You have to be careful with the water to the left of the green.
3. If you hit it in that water, you can make a (high) number. If you hit it right of the green, you can always make par.
Historical Note
In one of the most famous shots in tournament history, Mize holed out a 140-foot chip shot to win the 1987 Masters in sudden death over Greg Norman and Seve Ballesteros.
