International League Recap (Ottawa-Charlotte)

Posted: Tues June 29, 1999 at 4:33 p.m. EDT

OTTAWA (EXPOS) 6, CHARLOTTE WHITE SOX) 3

FORT MILL, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Francisco Morales went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI as the Ottawa Lynx snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the Charlotte Knights. After Jose Hernandez homered to lead off the fourth inning, David Post singled and scored on Morales' double to give Ottawa a 4-0 lead. Charlotte's Luis Raven and Mario Valdez smacked back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2, but Ottawa added an unearned run in the eighth on an RBI single by Morales and held on to break the Knights' five-game winning streak. Eight Ottawa players had hits including Geoff Blum, who had a pair of singles to extend his streak of reaching base safely via a hit or walk to 23 games. Scott Mitchell (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Shayne Bennett picked up his eighth save despite allowing two hits and a run in the ninth. Carlos Castillo (7-5) suffered the loss, giving up six runs -- four earned -- and 10 hits over seven innings. Raven went 4-for-4 to lead Charlotte's 14-hit attack, while Tilson Brito collected three singles to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.
