ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Kansas City Royals third baseman Dean Palmer was knocked out of Thursday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals and will miss his first All-Star Game after being hit by a pitch in the left elbow. Palmer ran the bases after being hit by Juan Acevedo in the second inning, but was replaced in a double switch in the bottom half of the inning. X-rays showed a bruise, but the injury had a lot of swelling and Palmer couldn't feel his fingers. "He's hurt pretty bad," Royals manager Tony Muser said. "This is the most disappointing thing that's happened tonight, him not getting to play in his first All-Star Game." Palmer, selected to the AL All-Star team on Wednesday, is batting .292 with 16 home runs and 48 RBIs.
