Big Mac's home run off Chicago White Sox hurler Alex Fernandez—No. 35 on the year—begins a streak of four consecutive games featuring a McGwire blast, including a 470-foot shot on July 24. At the time it was the longest dinger ever by a visiting player at new Comiskey Park.
