9/14/96:
With a home run at Jacobs Field off Cleveland's Chad Ogea in his 390th at-bat of the season, McGwire reaches 50 faster than anyone in history. The second-fastest: Babe Ruth, who needed 438 at-bats to hit 50 in 1921. After the game, McGwire gives the ball to his eight-year old son, Matthew.

They Said It: McGwire on the Sultan of Swat: "Any time you can have your name associated with Babe Ruth, it's a pretty awesome thing to think about. I'm blown away. I think I'm sort of in awe myself. I've surpassed anything I ever expected to do in the game of baseball."
