Damian Miller will pay the price for joining the replacement players in the 1994 - 1995 strike. Doug Pensinger/Allsport |
MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- While Arizona's Damian Miller plays on a
division champion, you won't see his name or signature on the
merchandise.
Miller broke ranks with the players' association during the
1994-95 strike, participating with replacement players during
spring training in February-March 1995. But he insists he wasn't a
replacement player because he never joined them in actual spring
training games, the Tribune newspaper, which serves suburban
Phoenix, reported Monday.
The players' association has refused membership to all players
who it views as replacements. As a result, he doesn't receive
licensing money from the union, which usually amounts to
$50,000-$100,000 annually.
