The Florida Marlins selected California high school first baseman Adrian Gonzalez with the top pick in the first-year player draft. Gonzalez, who starred at Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, Calif., is just the second first baseman ever selected with the top overall pick. The only other first baseman selected first in the 36-year history of the draft was Ron Blomberg by the New York Yankees in 1967.
