No. 19 Chicago White Sox
1999 Record: 75-86 (2nd in AL Central) The Chicago White Sox won fewer games last season than they had in either 1997 or 1998. But there is cause for hope at Comiskey. The White Sox have a good, young nucleus of talent. They just need Frank Thomas to return to form. Thomas' numbers have dropped dramatically since he won the AL batting title in 1997. Last season, he struggled with an ankle injury and saw his power numbers bottom out with career lows in homers and RBI. However, Thomas appears to be healthy again, and he has worked with former hitting coach Walt Hriniak in the off season in hopes of regaining his stroke. The White Sox need their young players like Magglio Ordonez and Paul Konerko to continue to improve if they are going to challenge for a division title. But they still have some growing pains to go through...and that why the White Sox are my 19th best team in baseball.
