COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) -- Adding to what was a crowded Cal Ripken exhibit, the National Baseball Hall of Fame said Wednesday it was getting memorabilia from Ripken's All-Star Game appearance. The cap and jersey the 40-year-old Ripken wore Tuesday night and the bat he used to hit the home run that gave him the Most Valuable Player award were on the way to the hall. Ripken's second career All-Star homer made him the oldest player in the game's history to hit a home run and the first American League player to be chosen MVP twice. With his first MVP award from 1991, he joins Willie Mays, Steve Garvey and Gary Carter as the only two-time winners. "Cal Ripken Jr. has enjoyed a career filled with memorable milestones," said Jeff Idelson, the Hall of Fame's vice president of Communications and Education. "Thanks to his respect for baseball history, and his appreciation for the Baseball Hall of Fame, we have many artifacts from his legendary career in our collection for fans to enjoy when they visit Cooperstown." The hall already has Ripken memorabilia, including the uniform he wore Sept. 6, 1995, when he broke Lou Gehrig's record of 2,130 consecutive games played.
