PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Bret Boone had two hits, including a two-run triple, as the Seattle Mariners coasted to a 5-2 Cactus League victory over the Oakland Athletics. Boone's triple off Erik Hiljus gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead in the third inning. They added two runs in the fifth. Ichiro Suzuki, the reigning American League Most Valuable Player, added two hits and an RBI for the Mariners. Johh Halama, bidding for a spot in the Seattle rotation, helped himself by allowing one run and two hits in four innings. He walked two and struck out two. Terrence Long belted a solo homer and Eric Chavez went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Oakland. Hiljus surrendered four runs and six hits in four innings with a walk and four strikeouts. |
