MESA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Sammy Sosa had four hits, including his third spring home run, and four RBI to power the Chicago Cubs to a 14-7 rout of the Colorado Rockies in a Cactus League slugfest. Sosa slugged a two-run blast off starter Shawn Chacon in the third inning to cut the Cubs' deficit to 5-2. He also had a run-scoring single in the fifth and an RBI double in a seven-run sixth that broke open the game. Mark Bellhorn and Fred McGriff delivered two-run homers in the sixth as Rockies reliever Jose Paniagua continued to struggle. Acquired in the offseason from Seattle, the righthander surrendered six runs and six hits while retiring just two batters. His spring ERA rose to 14.90. Chacon was reached for three runs and four hits in five innings with four walks and two strikeouts as Colorado had a five-game winning streak snapped. Chicago starter Julian Tavarez yielded five runs and seven hits in five innings against his former team, but Joe Borowski tossed a perfect sixth for his second spring win. Greg Norton remained red-hot for the Rockies, going 2-for-2 with another home run and two RBI. On Friday, he was 3-for-3 with two homers and four RBI. |
