PHOENIX, Arizona (Ticker) -- Ruben Quevedo pitched six scoreless innings and pinch hitter Tyler Houston doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth as the Milwaukee Brewers pulled away for a 9-2 Cactus League victory over the Oakland Athletics. Quevedo allowed four hits and struck out four without a walk, leaving with a 2-0 lead. Andrew Lorraine coughed it up in the bottom of the seventh, but Houston's hit off Jim Mecir put Milwaukee in front to stay. The Brewers padded the lead with six runs in the ninth. Mark Loretta had two hits, including his second spring homer, and Lenny Harris also drove in two runs for Milwaukee. A's starter Barry Zito also was solid, allowing two runs and five hits in seven innings, striking out five and walking none. Mike Venafro was the victim in the ninth, yielding five runs and five hits.. Scott Hatteberg hit his fifth spring homer and Mike Colangelo was 2-for-2 for Oakland. |
