PEORIA, Arizona (Ticker) -- James Baldwin earned his first spring win, allowing three runs and seven hits over six innings as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Chicago Cubs, 6-3, in Cactus League action. Baldwin, who likely will begin the season as Seattle's third or fourth starter, walked one and struck out one. In four spring outings, he has yielded six runs over 15 innings for a 3.60 ERA. Justin Kaye, Arthur Rhodes and Kazuhiro Sasaki each tossed a scoreless inning for the Mariners. Sasaki gave up one hit in the ninth for his first save. Kerry Wood suffered his third spring loss, yielding three runs and seven hits over just three innings. Ichiro Suzuki, Bret Boone, Edgar Martinez and Luis Ugueto each collected two hits for Seattle. Martinez also drove in two runs. Alex Gonzalez had two hits for the Cubs, who got a solo homer from Roosevelt Brown. |
