YUMA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Ramon Vazquez homered and drove in three runs and four relievers tossed 3 1/3 hitless innings as a split squad of San Diego Padres defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-2, in Cactus League play. Vazquez's homer keyed a four-run second inning for the Padres, who also were helped by Tom Lampkin's RBI double. Starter Ben Howard allowed two runs and six hits over 5 1/3 innings before giving way to Isabel Giron, who got the last two outs in the sixth. David Lundquist, Matt Hampton and Clay Condrey pitched one inning apiece, with Condrey fanning one in the ninth for his first save. San Diego third baseman Sean Burroughs suffered a bruised right hand after being hit by starter Mike Gosling's pitch and is day to day. Gosling took the loss, giving up four runs -- one earned -- and three hits over three innings. Quinton McCracken had two hits and scored twice and Rod Barajas collected two hits and two RBI for Arizona. |
