SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Kevin Orie lifted a sacrifice fly and Roosevelt Brown delivered an RBI single in the top of the 10th inning to give the Chicago Cubs a wild 13-11 Cactus League triumph over the San Francisco Giants. The Cubs took an 11-9 lead in the top of the ninth, but the Giants tied it on an RBI double by Ramon Martinez and a run-scoring single by Angel Pena. Robbie Crabtree surrendered both runs in the 10th and took the loss as all five San Francisco pitchers were scored upon. Starter Russ Ortiz gave up five runs, four hits and five walks while striking out seven in six innings. Cubs counterpart Juan Cruz fared no better, allowing five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings with four walks and two strikeouts. Jeff Fassero was reached for two runs and three hits in 1 1/3 innings but got the win. Joe Borowski struck out two in the 10th for the save. Sammy Sosa hit a three-run homer, his fourth, and Augie Ojeda slugged a two-run shot for Chicago. Martinez finished with three hits and three RBI and Edwards Guzman homered and also drove in three runs for the Giants. |
