MESA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Jon Lieber pitched five scoreless innings and Chris Stynes knocked in three runs as the Chicago Cubs held on for a 7-6 Cactus League victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. In his final appearance before starting the Cubs' opener at Cincinnati on Monday, Lieber gave up just two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Jeff Fassero followed with a perfect inning for the win. Stynes knocked in three runs and Corey Patterson went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI for the Cubs, who scored six times in the sixth inning off Randy Johnson. Johnson, the reigning two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, was brilliant before falling apart in the sixth. The "Big Unit" surrendered six runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out 11. Jay Bell went 2-for-3 with an RBI single for Arizona, which scored five times in the top of the ninth. |
