TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Ben Sheets' last spring start was not a good one.

Sheets allowed hits to the first nine batters he faced and surrendered 10 runs in 2 1/3 innings as the Milwaukee Brewers were pounded by the Anaheim Angels, 17-5, in Cactus League play.

Sheets, who is expected to anchor Milwaukee's rotation, won his first four spring starts. But he did not have it Thursday as he retired just seven batters while giving up 13 hits.

The Angels scored seven runs in the first inning and three in the third. They also roughed up Mike Buddie for four runs in the seventh and Ray King for two in the eighth.

Clay Bellinger had three hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs for Anaheim, which collected 23 hits. Orlando Palmeiro had three hits and scored three times and Jeff DaVanon had two hits and three RBI.

Kevin Appier (2-1) was the winner, allowing one run and five hits in five innings. The Angels held a 17-1 lead before reliever Lou Pote gave up four runs in the ninth.

Mike Napoli homered for Anaheim. Ryan Thompson hit his third spring homer for Milwaukee.
