SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Tim Hudson pitched six strong innings and helped himself with a two-run single as the Oakland Athletics coasted to an 8-1 Cactus League victory over the San Francisco Giants in the opener of the Bay Bridge Series. Hudson gave up one run and three hits, striking out four without a walk. He also drove in two runs with a base hit in the fifth inning that gave the A's a 2-1 lead. Jeremy Giambi belted a three-run homer in the fifth for Oakland. Barry Bonds, who hit a single-season record 73 homers last season, belted his fourth of the spring for the Giants. Giants starter Kirk Rueter was roughed up for five runs and five hits in five innings. The veteran lefthander walked one and struck out two. The game was played at Pacific Bell Park. The Giants also host the A's on Friday before the series shifts to Network Associates Coliseum on Saturday. |
