PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Mark Grace and pinch hitter Chris Donnels had RBI singles in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks edged the Chicago Cubs, 3-2. Luis Gonzalez hit his league-leading ninth homer of the spring for the Diamondbacks, a solo shot in the first inning off Cubs starter Matt Clement. Gonzalez had three of Arizona's eight hits. Chris Capuano started for Arizona and allowed a run and five hits over five innings. Mike Myers picked up his third win of the spring by striking out two batters in the eighth. Mark Holzemer tossed a scoreless ninth for the save. Clement allowed just the one run and four hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out four before giving way to Donovan Osborne, who tossed a scoreless sixth. Kyle Farnsworth worked a hitless seventh before newly acquired closer Antonio Alfonseca surrendered the lead in the eighth. Alex Gonzalez had three of the Cubs seven hits. |
