Here's what was happening in America in
1972:

Oakland A's 4, Cincinnati Reds

The mustachioed A's squeaked by the uptight Reds to win
their first World Series championship since 1930. With
slugger Reggie Jackson sidelined by a torn hamstring,
catcher Gene Tenace was the unlikely hero. Tenace tied a
record with four homers in the
Series. He knocked in all three Oakland runs in Game One,
and became the first player to homer in his first two
Series
at-bats.
