Not Bad for a Rookie

Brett Tomko was 11-6 in his 19 starts (58%) last season. Among pitchers with at least 15 starts, only Randy Johnson (66%), Roger Clemens (62%), Shawn Estes (59%) and Denny Neagle (59%) won a greater percentage of their starts. Over the last 35 years, in fact, only five rookie pitchers who started at least 19 games won a greater percentage of their starts than Tomko. Each of the five had a winning record as a sophomore, and two were 20-game winners in their second seasons.
