JULY 8, 1957 In SI's All-Star Game scouting report, Williams' "defensive deficiencies in left" were noted as the American League outfield's only flaw (the other two starters: the Yankees' Mickey Mantle and the Tigers' Al Kaline). But because Williams "has been the most dominant force in All-Star history [.361 average in 36 at bats over 13 games]," his weaknesses were forgiven. Williams went 0-for-3 with a walk, but the AL emerged with a 6-5 victory at old Busch Stadium, the home of Stan Musial (No. 6, left).
