  A Winning Combination
Chad Curtis

Chad Curtis, LF
Curtis was acquired from the Indians last season as an extra outfielder. But when centerfielder Bernie Williams went down with a knee injury this June, the Yanks looked to Curtis to fill in. Curtis was so impressive at the plate that he remained a semiregular after Williams came off the DL. In addition to becoming a more patient and productive hitter, Curtis is aggressive on the basepaths and can cover a lot of ground in the outfield. If you're lucky, you might get to see him do one of his patented bellyflops after firing the ball toward the plate.

1998 stats: .243, 10 HR, 56 RBI, 21 SB
