PITCHERS Ron
Guidry and Whitey Ford
I defy tradition by picking two lefthanders instead of a
righty and a lefty. The Yankees have had notable
righthanders over the years (Jack Chesbro, Waite Hoyt, Red
Ruffing, Allie Reynolds, Vic Raschi, Catfish Hunter, etc.)
and other fine lefthanders
(Herb Pennock and Lefty Gomez, for Hall of Fame examples), but
I want Ford (a Yankee 1950-1967), who was so dominant and
dependable for so many years, and Guidry (1975-1988), whose
shorter career was brilliant. Few pitchers have stopped the
opposition the
way Ford did in 1961 and Guidry did in
1978.
Don't argue with me!
